LETS GONE

LETS GONE WARRIORS sign held by fans

The earliest viral moment of the franchise comes on a balmy Monday night at Suncorp Stadium, June 2013. With the Warriors dismantling the Brisbane Broncos on national television, a camera pans across the crowd and lands on Warriors fan Tyson Ella holding up the now-infamous sign:

LETS GONE WARRIORS

It makes perfect sense to the fanbase. Adopted as the unofficial slogan and a symbol of optimism at a time of great despair.

Two weeks before this sign goes viral, the Warriors have their worst loss in the club’s history, going down 6–62 to the Panthers, with only two wins in the last ten games.

The Warriors have given nothing to celebrate, and yet - the fans still show up. With the perfect storm of a failing season, dwindling hope and ESOL-level English, you have the ingredients for something more potent: resilience.

During this decade we see seasons of mid-table finishes, fans wanting to rename Mt Smart Stadium to Compassionate Grounds with numerous player releases, and a stint across the ditch during the Covid seasons.

Today is a different landscape. Second on the ladder. First win over the Storm in Melbourne in eleven years. Plenty more footy to come.

The team still hasn’t delivered any meaningful results, but that’s beside the point. Showing up is.
